Two years on and food lovers across Sydney are still reeling over the closure of Surry Hills’ treasured Pizza Mario. The highly celebrated pizzeria was long-established as one of the very best this city has ever seen, and its unfortunate closure in 2015 was a huge hit to the otherwise rich and consistent Italian dining scene across the city. Though the blow was somewhat softened by the news that Da Mario, the owners’ spin-off which opened in Rosebery in 2013, would remain open, boasting the same award-winning pizza located in a barely-formed dining district that has long been known for quality over quantity. ... I talk food, write food and occasionally cook food from the comfort of my own kitchen but can I put my money where my mouth is and deliver a truly authentic French dining experience? Probably not, but there is no reason why I shouldn’t give it a go. Last weekend I was able to do just that at VIVE Cooking School, a beautiful space located at the heart of Saporium, Rosebery’s latest precinct that synthesises design and eating. VIVE Cooking School is a platform for passionate home cooks of all ages who are searching for a deeper connection with how they shop, source and share food. It’s actually even shaped like a glasshouse, allowing not just the passersby to peer right in, but further represents VIVE’s positioning to enhance the community dimension of freshly opened hub Saporium, being open to and utilising ingredients and skills from the artisan shops that surround it.... They’re always into something. The team at Gelato Messina are preparing a two-day lunch and dinner pop-up in the carpark of their Rosebery headquarters this month, bringing with them a load of Cremino Choc Tops and some of the brand’s most popular scoops to put up beside two of Melbourne’s casual-dining big guns. The gelato lords have managed to coax both Huxtaburger and Mr Claws into making the trek up to Sydney to help move the pop-up along with burgers, lobster rolls, and chips. This is going to be most excellent!... Read More | Share it now!
