William Grant & Sons appoint their 100th ambassador

As part of their international spirits ambassador programme, luxury spirits company William Grant & Sons have selected Australian award-winning bartender Richard Blanchard as their 100th ambassador. Appointed as the Glenfiddich Ambassador after working for the brand as a “whisky specialist” for the past three years, Blanchard will be responsible for growing the iconic single-malt Scotch whisky’s brand within Australian and New Zealand.

Founded back in 1999, the William Grant & Sons spirit ambassador programme consists of 9 global and 91 local spirit experts working across 25 countries, representing iconic spirits such as Grant’s, Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, Hendrick’s Gin, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, Tullamore DEW, Monkey Shoulder, and Drambuie.

As part of his new position, Blanchard will be responsible for a wide range of tasks including inventing new ways to mix the single-malt whisky, meeting with media, influencers and trade partners, as well as hosting tasting events and masterclasses with the public.

“Our ambassadors act as an extension of the family behind the business…bringing immense know-how and unique capabilities from a varied selection of backgrounds. The ambassador team is truly central to William Grant & Sons’ global success,” said Jack Pollock, Head of Marketing.

With Blanchard’s new appointment, the company’s ambassador team now includes nine global and 91 local ambassadors across 25 different countries. The U.S has the most, led by Charlotte Voisey, while Glennfiddich has the largest team – 22 ambassadors.

Creativity and the freedom to explore new and unique ideas in order to grow the company is central to the ambassador role and, in the past, it’s been known to result in some interesting collaborations. A good example is the recently released Project XX in the Glenfiddich Experimental Series, created in partnership with Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman who brought together 20 special single malts, all carefully selected by an ambassador.
