The fine folk behind Four Pillars have just announced that this year they’ll be bringing back their phenomenal Bloody Shiraz Gin, which last year completely sold out just four months after it was released. To satisfy demand, the gin distillery will be producing even more bottles of the epic gin-wine combo, which takes Four Pillars’ exceptional gin and blends with it with flavour-rich shiraz grapes (that’s about the most simple description possible, but you get the idea).
Bloody Shiraz Gin Vintage 2017 will be unleashed upon Australia come from 1st June, spreading the sweet purple elixir that first came about in 2015, during the Yarra Valley vintage when the Four Pillars team received 250kg of Shiraz from one of the region’s best vineyards, in Warrandyte, and decided to steep the uncrushed berries in high-proof gin, just to see what would happen.
Four eight weeks the team left the whole berries to mix with the high-proof Rare Dry Gin, plunging them each day to help milk all the juicy sweetness so you’d get those spicy, peppery notes mixing up with the gin’s profile of citrus and juniper. The finishing touches came after two months, the team having pressed and bottled the juice before adjusting it to 37.8% ABV just in time for World Gin Day 2015. It was their best selling gin on the day it was released, and around 600 bottles were whisked away in a matter of weeks, with frantic inquiries lasting long after that.
For this year’s release, Four Pillars have sourced just over 10 tonnes of their favourite Yarra Valley shiraz, meaning there’s going to be a lot more to go around. They’ll be launching the 2017 vintage on 1st June as well as using it to mix up “Bloody Shiraz Blitz” specials in selected liquor stores across Australia on 3rd June, just a week before World Gin Day.
From then, the gin will be available for direct purchase from their distillery or online on their website for an RRP of $85. A few of the country’s best bars and liquor stores will also be stocking it, and a very select few markets across the globe will be getting the chance to try as well.
