Wine is Coming: Game of Thrones themed wine festival “Game of Rhones” returns

After sell-out events across Australia and New Zealand last year, Game of Rhones will make it’s noble return as it tours Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, and Wellington once again this year across May, June, and July. Obviously inspired by HBO smash Game of Thrones (for which the season six trailer can be found HERE), this wine festival is a celebration of the classic grape varieties of the Rhone Valley in France, bringing in everything from Shiraz to Roussane in some of the best venues across the above cities for a wine festival to end all wine festivals.

Perth and Wellington will see the concept festival debut in their cities this year as the program stretches to include it’s biggest range yet. Over 40 of the best producers from Australia and New Zealand (examples being Shaw + Smith and Olivers Taranga) will tour with over 100 wines on tasting (per event) and an even bigger offering of hearty food than last year so you’ll have quite a feast to pair.

The Rhone Bar will be a feature at each event, manned by some of the best sommeliers available to give the public a taste of wines from ‘beyond the wall’ (Rhone Valley), by the glass and at virtually cost price. Wines will also be available to purchase on the day at cellar door prices (except Brisbane).

Guests are encouraged to taste their way around the room and cast their vote for the Peoples Choice award by pitting variety, style, house and region against each other to see who will reign supreme for the chance to win some epic door prizes from PLUMM glasses.

This year will see the debut of the Royal Pass, where a limited number of wine-loving VIPs will have exclusive pre-event access to the wineries between 11am-1pm, all the way through until the event ends at 6pm. It will also give access to special bottles kept aside by the winemakers just for royalty, a food voucher for any one of the food producers, and 3 wine tastings from the Rhone Bar.

With the legendary blind (folded) tasting ‘torture chamber’ back again (a must at Game of Rhones), an enthusiasm for the wine producers to dress in theme, as well as attendees for that matter, Game of Rhones is set for another monstrous campaign. GAME. ON.

Note that the full line up of producers will vary from city to city. Please head to www.gameofrhones.com for a full list of exhibitors for each city.
