It seems the organisers behind the forthcoming Laneway Festival have outdone themselves in terms of an enormous food and drink program for both Sydney and Melbourne. What is now one of the country’s most beloved music and cultural festivals has announced a line up of restaurant partners curated by the obviously very discerning and well-connected David Moyle to include top tier dining destinations in both locations, all coming on board to pop-up on-site under a new festival dining concept.
Both cities will of course have their own exclusives, all of which have confirmed exactly what they’ll be serving on the day. And if it all tastes as good as it reads, punters are in for a real treat. All confirmed restaurants will be offering one dish and one drink each (paired for $25 – $18 for just the cocktail).
Both Sydney and Melbourne will have a dedicated food precinct dubbed the Royal Moyle, a dish and drink pairing experience that includes all food matched with bespoke cocktails designed by mixologist Shaun Bryne. It’s a tad different to the spaced out food stall offerings found at previous iterations of Laneway Festival, bumping things up to a more refined experience. And by more refined we mean some big dining institutions have been confirmed, including Embla and Smith & Daughters for Melbourne, and 10 William St and Restaurant Hubert for Sydney.
Note that all other cities on the Laneway Festival schedule are likely to have a bigger focus on good ol’ fashioned food stalls from local vendors and eateries. And while they won’t have the Royal Moyle, if previous years are anything to go by, the food and drink will be just as good.
“Getting someone like David Moyle to program food is like asking Pink Floyd to unite and play Laneway”, said Laneway Co-Director Danny Rogers. “We constantly change the way we do things and always look to do things at a level we haven’t hit before”.
