As we dive into the nitty gritty of summer, the end of January brings a time to reflect on what has been a packed 12 months for Sydney’s excellent bar scene. Influential publication Time Out did just that for their annual Sydney Bar Awards, rewarding top performers across several categories such as “Best Restaurant Bar”, “Best Neighbourhood Bar”, and “Bar of the Year”.
The ultimate prize was taken out by Darlinghurst’s Spritz homage This Must Be The Place, which also took out “Best Cocktail Bar”. Other awards included “Best Wine Bar”, which went to the restored Dolphin Wine Room in Surry Hills, “Best Restaurant Bar” going to hip-hop & cheese mecca Big Poppa’s, and “Best Neighbourhood Bar” which, despite reaching further out into Sydney’s west this year, still return to Enmore with the undeniable charm of The Gretz.
