Tiger Trek is now open at Taronga Zoo to get you insanely close to these remarkable animals

An Indonesian-themed experience is now open at Taronga Zoo to get you frighteningly close to Taronga’s Sumatran Tiger conservation and education program.

A simulated plane cabin will transport you to the jungles of Sumatra to begin your education journey about how choosing Certified Sustainable Palm Oil will have a role in saving this tiger species. Guests will see the deforestation first hand through the cabin windows.

An Indonesian village has been built to welcome you as you move your way from the cabin and into the jungle zone. Here, a rangers car that breaks through the wall of the enclosure let’s you crawl inside as the tigers climb onto the hood of the car.

If the enclosed car option isn’t your thing, there are seats with only reinforced mesh that lets you see, hear and smell them (and the tigers to see, hear and smell you). A faux-grocery store checkout has been included at the end of your journey where you will discover which products are and aren’t using Certified Sustainable Palm Oil. For those that aren’t, guests are given QR codes that send emails to the company on their behalf requesting them to change their manufacturing process.
