With the immediate area surrounding Waterloo hotspot Abbotts Hotel becoming a hotbed of Pokémon activity, the team behind the pub have officially declared it a dedicated “PokéPub”, temping frenzied Pokémon Go players with special themed offers that will last all this week.
It was only a matter of time before venues jumped on this whole Pokémon Go craze, seeing as the mobile game is one of the most talked about things in the world right now.
The decision to switch up the pub’s usual offerings to something more Poké-friendly (its still 18+, but the game knows no age limit) came with the realisation that the surrounding area was what people are calling a “PokéStop”, a place where a whole heap of Pokémon are spotted by the app, thereby drawing in players by the dozens. In response to the popularity, Abbotts Hotel are offering players the opportunity to put their feet up and have a feed while playing the game with free Wi-Fi and phone charging stations.
In addition, the hotel will have a constant flow of free Lure Modules (in-game Pokémon bait) running from 12pm to 12am each night (this week), meaning the Pokémon come to the diners – rather than the other way around – while they tuck into a Pokémon themed menu that includes Piku-Chips ($4), Beef Burgémon ($12) & ‘Char’mander Grilled Steak ($14), Hot Dogs with a Squirt-le of Tomato Sauce ($7). No word on whether or not the theme extends beyond just the name of the dishes, but seeing as they’ve brought in a new Chef, it’s a good excuse to go down and try out the revamped offerings.
The theme will last until Sunday.
