The Windsor Alehouse is Punt Road’s new craft beer hub (Melbourne)

With 19 craft beers on tap and a wide selection of top-notch pub food, The Windsor Alehouse, located on Windsor’s Punt Road, has become a new favourite watering hole for locals in the area.

“Our menu complements our beers and ales to give you the full experience a craft beer venue should. We are bringing the beer right into our cooking and braising”, says Head Chef, Kevin McLaughlin. “I am very fond of drinking beer surrounded by knowledgeable beer drinking friends who keep introducing me to the great beers”.

McLaughlin was previously with The Deck in Southbank for two years, and prior to his move to Melbourne, he was in the UK and Ireland developing his knowledge in contemporary modern cooking. McLaughlin’s main aim with The Windsor Alehouse is to feature craft beer through the menu, which focuses heavily on local seasonal produce and focuses in on showcasing some of the best brews in Australia.

With him is Head Bartender Stefan Trentini (ex-The Local Taphouse), one who isn’t shy about recommending food-beer pairings: “The SupaFly Rye IPA starts with a spiced, slightly licorice malt body then balances to a floral and piney hoppiness with legs for days. I would match it with the braised brisket, as the malt character of the beer really compliments and contrasts with the richness of the beef and the jus”.

The Windsor Alehouse is freshly refurbished, offering up a warm and casual atmosphere with a substantial menu filled with dishes like the black pudding bon bons, southern fried pork belly bites and an array of vegetarian and gluten free options. For those looking for something more, traditional pub grub staples include the Alehouse beef burger, slow braised beef brisket and sticky pork ribs. These sit alongside the vast collection of local and international beers available.
