If you’re one of the 40,000+ members of The Fatties Burger Appreciation Society on Facebook then you may be all too familiar with the name Bar Luca. The near-Circular-Quay pub has become famous for their burgers, particularly the poutine-packed Blame Canada, which was voted by said Facebook group as the best burger in Sydney; anyone who has ever tasted one will find that accolade hard to argue with, and anyone who has had that experience will be overjoyed to know that the burger-flipped team are opening up a dedicated burger restaurant on Oxford Street next month!
Reported by Broadsheet, the new venture will be named B L Burgers, described as a joint that’s just “burgers and fries” by co-owner Sarah Robbins, one half of the duo behind Bar Luca, the other half being her partner James Robbins.
B L Burgers will be a small 20-seated venue, showcasing the same burgers from Bar Luca but doing away with the whole pub feel, bringing masterpieces like the Blame Canada and their equally satisfying weekly specials over to the new site alongside shakes and non-alcoholic drinks so those of all-ages can get in on the good stuff. “We’ll probably do a few different things as well”, Robbins tells Broadsheet.
Previous specials at Bar Luca have included the Alabama Slammer with Wagyu, American cheddar, Gin & Juice pulled pork, Alabama white BBQ sauce, crushed almonds, onions, pickles, green chard, and southern comfort hawt sauce; the playful Fun Guy with Wagyu, double Swiss cheese, crumbled mushroom, sage & burnt butter aioli, white onion, pickles, and shallots; and the fucking excellent Juan Mac’n’Ro with Wagyu pattie, double American cheddar, house made Spanish BBQ sauce, chipotle aioli, mac ‘n’ cheese & chorizo.
B L Burgers will open in early March, so that’s just a matter of weeks before you get a hearty dose of godly burgers closer to the heart of Sydney. It will be located at 1/151 Oxford st, Darlinghurst.
