The Randwick Club’s third level has now doors to an elegant Cantonese inspired dining experience, Zhu Canton, this past week. The modern Asian restaurant’s name shares several different meanings including ‘host’, ‘to join together’ and ‘to express good wishes’ and is an expansive, beautifully furnished offering that will open guests up to a daily Yum Cha menu, full dinner service, and an Imperial Banquet during evenings.
Zhu Canton is a collaborative effort between The Randwick Club and Gable Lo, Director of The Club Catering Management Group, coloured by award winning team Giant Design (Jamie’s Trattoria; Red Lantern on Riley; Din Tai Fung), with a strong lean towards the theatrical and inspiration drawn from its Ming Dynasty roots.
Highlights of the spacious area include stunning chinese watercolour pieces printed on billowing fabric hanging over the central dining section as well as gracing the walls of an opulent private dining room (seating 20) toward the rear of the venue. A cleanly carved block of rippled marble frames, an open window to the kitchen/prep area, and a timber pergola with overhanging fresh Bougainvillea and fairy lights bring a soft enchanting atmosphere to the terrace.
A launch event held last week showcased some of the excellent yum cha fare seasoned Executive Chef Billy Tam and Dim Sum master Johnny Lai produce from the busy kitchen. These included Chicken Rolls, Prawn Gow Gee, Salt and Pepper Prawns & Fish, Pork & Prawn Siu Mai and Peking Duck Pancakes as part of the savoury selection, and Black Sesame Balls, Mango Pancakes and Coconut coated rainbow jellies to finish on a sweet note.
A selection of wines, beer and cocktails – including a bubbly Lychee Champagne Cocktail – define Zhu Canton’s extensive beverage list, stocked behind a feature bar which is home to a variety of signatures with a twist featuring sake, world whiskies and cognacs.
