The Kraken Karnival launches a festival of darkness this weekend at The Vic (Sydney)

Guests should not expect a vibrant, colourful scene this weekend for the launch of the Kraken Karnival in Marrickville; instead, The Kraken Black Spiced Rum will bring their greyscale palette to their two-day festival of darkness.

From Friday the 14th of July, a four-metre helter skelter lighthouse wrapped in an attacking tentacle of the Kraken will pay homage to the legendary sea monster at the Vic on the Park among a range of festival competitions and activities.

The food and drinks menu will celebrate The Kraken with a selection that infuses the spiced rum into all options. For drinks, guests can expect The Kraken and Coke ($10), The Kraken Squid Bite (Kraken and warm cider, $10) and the black and white theme to continue when slow-dissolving Persian fairy floss will be placed atop Espresso Martini’s ($14).

Hungry patrons will experience The Vic’s normal kitchen menu as well as Kraken-infused black hotdogs, which will be laid in ink dyed black buns with caramelised onions, Kraken Ribs, toffee apples, black popcorn and Salt and Pepper Kraken Squid.
