The Galeries to host four-day spring social this week (Sydney)

One of Sydney CBD’s best known retail and dinging precincts, The Galeries, will be steaming into spring with a four-day celebration of the hub’s colour and culture curated into a program they are calling Spring Social. The yearly event will be illustrated with an installation of bespoke greenery snaking throughout the centre, heralding the lively season as the space turns into a pop-up Japanese zen garden with exclusive dining menus, demonstrations, pop-ups, and live music.

Black Star Pastry will be on-hand showcasing a Pistachio Lemon Zen Cake as well as a Raspberry Lychee Cake which they have made with frequent collaborators N2 Extreme Gelato. Doughnut Time will also be bringing their treats, including a flavour designed especially for the event, called Curls Get The Girls with matcha glaze, pink chocolate curls, and free dried raspberries. Of course Lotus will be getting involved as well, with a special edible garden with Spring Apple Raindrop Cake as well as Pumpkin Mochi, green speckled Macarons, and Mandarin Ice Cream which can be ‘hand picked’ from a tree. Lotus will also be offering a $50 Yum Cha menu over the four days.

Kinokuniya will be bringing down some of their books for a pop-up Recharge Station which will feature Muji’s bean sofas and phone charging stations for those that want to stay a while.

Most days of the festival will also bring in different art showcases to help add a little bit of spice to the central area. On Friday The Galeries will host artists Rhys Gordon and Joel Ang from tattoo studio Little Tokyo, both of whom will be live painting a life-sized canvas where the public can also contribute. Saturday will bring in Bonsai Environment and Penjing Australia for a cascading display of Japanese Bonsai and Chinese Penjing with a live clipping station. On the final day, Sunday, local artist ALPHAMAM will be playing a set of jazz, soul, and hip hop for the public.

During the Spring Social, The Galeries will also be running a competition, the winner of which will win a trip of two to Kyoto, Japan. Entrants need to spend over $100 and hold onto their receipts to be in with a chance to win, with online entries accepted HERE.
