The Fuscaldo family have opened a new Italian restaurant and cafe near Hyde Park (Sydney)

Sydney’s ever-changing William Street has copped a new neighbourhood Italian café and restaurant with Vizio Caffé e Cucina, opening up on the Hyde Park end of the long strip with designs on serving up hearty international breakfasts, leisurely lunches and authentic Italian dinners. The venue is owned by the Fuscaldo family, who have a long and storied history with bringing Italian food to Australia, dating all the way back to the first fresh pasta retail shop in Melbourne, opened in 1964.

The same family have become known for Circular Quay’s Portobello Caffe and hope to extend that success to this new eatery, which will start every morning with offerings of espressos, acai bowls, and premium options like crab benedict, and pancakes with poached pear, fresh ricotta, walnut, maple syrup and chocolate crumb.

Lunch will see the café slide into something more recognisably Italian with light dishes like traditional bruschetta and hearty pastas like gnocchi tricolore and linguine pesto e gamberi along with specials, salads, and a signature beef burger. Dinner will bring the wines, beers and cocktails out to help wash down a menu of homemade Italian staples and produce like local salumi and formaggi, homemade pastas, meats and fish including signatures cozze alla sorrentina; Spring Bay mussels with fresh tomato, chilli, parsley and Chardonnay; and 250g grass fed Black Angus fillet with potato gratin, broccolini and port jus.

“Vizio in English literally means ‘vice’, so for us Vizio Caffé e Cucina is all about celebrating life’s ultimate indulgences of good food and drink shared with friends and family in the comfort and warmth of our home”, explained co-owner Alessandro Fuscaldo. “Growing up in an Italian household, we have taken our fond memories of sharing a traditional Sunday meal at Nonna’s house and transported them into our restaurant today, bringing our guests delicious homemade food that we want everyone to enjoy”.
