The Doughnut Bar brings their own brand of indulgence to Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall

Doughnut Lovers rejoice! The Doughnut Bar has opened in the Wintergarden, Queen Street Mall, a welcome addition to their current locations at Eat Street Markets and Edward Street.

Regarding the opening of the new location, owner Leigh Devlin says, “I feel that what makes us special is that we are small and detailed in what we do.  So, in order to best serve Brisbane it was necessary that my new store be located in the most central, convenient location.  Queen Street Mall is the heart of this city and we’re so happy to be right in the middle of it.”

The opening of the new location also sees the debut of the Scrolled Ice Cream ($10), exclusive to The Doughnut Bar.  Unlike traditional ice cream, the scrolled ice cream is low fat, low sugar and low air (regular ice cream has lots of air, and that’s not good!), and prepared fresh to order.  It will be available in three flavours – Tiny Timmy Tella (tiny teddies, Tim Tams, Nutella), Vovoreo (raspberry, coconut, oreo) and Snickers (chocolate, smashed nuts, caramel).

Making a scrolled ice cream isn’t for rookies.  In fact, the whole process – from freezing a layer of European gelato liquid to -20 celsius with imported cold plates, to adding the flavours and textures and then finally to molding the ice cream into scrolls – requires a great deal of skill, and the making of a scrolled ice cream is done in front of the customer.  The “scroll-able liquid” was designed with a Brisbane-based, family-owned gelato producer, and the resulting full flavour has passed the test of true Italian Gelato traditionalists.

Other additions to the store’s menu include a new partnership with Blackboard Coffee, as well as new Brioche doughnutsCronuts and Doughnut shakes.  Blackboard Coffee, from the Gold Coast, will deliver more ensures quality fare to the The Doughnut Bar’s already stellar offering (and will also make this their first Brisbane post), while the brioche doughnuts, cronuts and doughnut shakes add to the range of flavours and styles that are distinctively buttery and more European than American.

Leigh says “We love creating new and exciting flavours every week.  Being a boutique business we have the ability to create something one day and then roll it out for our customers the next”.
