Sam Prince Hospitality Group, the team behind Sydney heavy-hitters INDU and Mejico, will be adding a Japanese restaurant to their portfolio later this year when Kid Kyoto opens on Bridge Lane in spring. Promising their most ambitious project to date, the group plan to mesh a “rebellious” take on Japanese cuisine with an “unplugged” grungy atmosphere inspired by 80s and 90s rock, gifting Sydney a gritter take on a traditional izakaya.
Developed with Tokyo local and friend of Dr Sam Prince, Eriko Matsuda, Kid Kyoto will be a sizable drinking and dining den with space for around 120 covers, including a dedicated chef’s table featuring an Omakase menu. The a la carte menu will balance small share-style dishes with a focus on raw seafood (squid udon anyone?) and, seeing as there will be a robata grill gracing the kitchen, hopefully some yakitori.
The menu will be overseen by Head Chef Seb Gee who is best known for his work at China Doll and China Diner. More details will be revealed closer to the opening date.
