All hail the espresso martini, a genius fusion of caffeine and alcohol created by a fellow named Dick and a never to be named supermodel. Regardless of how it came to be, the more important thing is there’s an official festival idolising the signature cocktail heading our way. Following its recent success in Melbourne last year the Mr Black Festival of the Espresso Martini is heading to Sydney and we are ready to embrace the boozehound/coffee snob within.
Spanning over two days at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, just in time for Vivid, the event brings together some of Australia’s best specialty coffee roasters, cafes and bars. Attendees will be treated to free tastings of Mr Black premium liqueur which, considering how passionate (and meticulous) founders Tom Baker and Philip Moore are about their brewing and extraction process, is truly top notch stuff.
Ketel ONE Vodka and MONIN will be shaking up fine cocktails whilst Loving Earth Chocolate and Byron Bay Cookie Co offer guests sweet treats to complement their hot cups of joe. Mary’s and Young Henrys represent on the Newtown front, the former supplying juicy bundles of american style burger deliciousness and the latter tempering all that hard liquor with their frothy pints of lovingly brewed ale.
Coffee has become a fundamental building block to our fair nation’s culture which Mr Black founder & designer Tom Baker hopes this festival will appeal to “Coffee is one of those things that runs deep with people – like sex and religion – so we use our festival as an opportunity to bring people together and indulge a little.”
Entry to Mr Black Festival of The Espresso Martini is $30 plus booking fee, with the first 200 tickets sold including a complimentary espresso martini. Tickets are on sale from Wednesday 12th April at 12pm AEST. More info can be found here.
