South Yarra gets a new dining hot spot with Sth Central (Melbourne)

Newly opened in Yarra Street is a contemporary social and dining venue titled Sth Central, operated by partners Tommy McIntosh and Ben Avramides (of Tommy Collins fame) who have brought in Chefs Daniel Southern (Est Est Est, Circa) and Simon Winfield to bolster the kitchen alongside Leroy Smith (Stokehouse). The solid lineup have brought together their love and knowledge of the industry to make for a laid-back, high quality venue to start Melbourne’s new venue openings for 2016 off right.

The vision for Sth Central includes simple things done well, helped along by premium service and a high standard of produce, set in a trendy, industrial dining space designed by Molecule – think charcoal and pink colours with steel and leather textures.

Southern has led the kitchen in creating some big flavours for the contemporary Australian menu, aimed at shared-dining and a mix of Bistro and Gastronomy – what he describes as “Bistronomy”. This balance of modern and classic will result in dishes like Wood Fired Jumbo QLD Prawns with togarashi butter and almonds, Roast Beef Short Rib with harissa romesco and charred lemon, and a Garden Pea and Blueberry Salad with snow peas, shoots, and horseradish.

Produce is the main focus here, along with a local wine list that has been carefully selected along with some international favourites.

Sth Central is open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner.
