Legendary iconic Australian legend-slash-icon and the world’s best singer (if memes are your thing) Shannon Noll has done a Jeff Goldblum and teamed up with Menulog to open a pop-up store in Sydney today. Based on research which shows Aussies spend more than an hour each day preparing meals instead of getting a good night’s sleep, having ‘me’ time, or even getting outdoors, the temporary Surry Hills concept store – dubbed the Menulog 25/7 Store – will open for one hour a day over the next three days with an offering that includes customers browsing “products” such as “Quality Thyme” and “BuzzPops” to reflect what they’d do if they had an extra hour in the day.
In an official press release the process is described with the quote: “The Menulog 25/7 Store will stock ‘ingredients’ to help Australians ‘do life’, while Menulog ‘does food'”. The purpose: to help Aussies reclaim the hour they would usually spend shopping, cooking and cleaning. While the description may be fairly vague, we assume some sort of free ‘experience + meal + voucher’ is involved. At least we know that there will be free pizza – neighbors Epic Pizza will be delivering freebies to all customers to celebrate the store launch.
Other free “products” stocked in the store include some of Nollsie’s own genius creations such as a “What About Tea”, which will give customers a chance to sit back and relax with a cuppa, and a “Car Shine”, which if picked will give people an hour to take a ride in a “Big Black Shiny Car” while Menulog “does dinner” (as assume that means “prepares dinner”). The Australian Idol runner-up will also be performing some of his tunes at 1pm today for the official ribbon cutting.
Nolls’ involvement doesn’t end there. One customer each day will be able to pick up a “special ingredient” that will give them a “personal experience” with the man himself. What that actually means is up to you and your imagination.
“I love the idea of Menulog’s 25/7 Store because it’s all about giving people time back to enjoy other things together when they would usually be a in a busy supermarket or in the kitchen”, said Nollsie. “I’m also excited to see who picks up one of three ‘special’ ingredients to join me for an hour experience”.
