Melbourne’s newest luxury retail mall St Collins Lane recently opened its doors to Runya’s Room, a brand new champagne and high tea salon.Created by Sam Shagagi, the 70s inspired salon is an elegant tribute to Shagagi’s late wife Runya, who loved the sensory experience of high-tea in Melbourne.
Each day, the extravagant salon hosts three sessions of traditional high tea, serving a variety of tea sandwiches, cold and hot dishes like the Spinach and cheese boureka, fresh scones served with homemade jam and clotted cream, as well as handmade desserts such as the Raspberry & Vanilla Open Macaron or the Tutti Frutti Tart, along with a glass of French champagne, wine, tea and/or coffee.
Besides their set high tea menu, Runya’s Room also has an all-day breakfast and lunch menu created by executive chef Andy Ledson, featuring a variety of high-end European and Middle-Eastern inspired dishes. However, the real highlight of the salon is the cake and dessert menu made up of a wide range of fresh handmade cakes, eclairs, macarons, and petit fors.
Shagagi, who also runs the popular French patisserie Café de la Ville situated in South Yarra, said the main idea behind his new high tea salon was to simply “create something that encapsulated one of the things Runya loved the most and share it with Melburnians and tourists alike”.
