Royal Croquet Club pops up on Bondi Beach for 11 days of food, music and art (Sydney)

Traveling culture festival Royal Croquet Club has officially debuted in Sydney after returning for its third overall consecutive year in Australia, propped up on the iconic sands from now until Sunday 4th December with a jaw-dropping list of some of the city’s most popular food vendors, fashion stalls, live music, experiential art installations, theatre, bars, and yep, croquet. The Adelaide-born festival, which toured through Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane earlier this year, is expected to draw a crowd of 60,000 over its 10 days.

Using croquet as its anchor, RCC plans to fill Bondi Beach with everything from a stage touting performances by Jarryd James, Thandi Phoenix and more, to Gelato Messina’s famed pop up soup kitchen (hint: it’s not soup). It’s an all ages event and each night will be bringing something different, capping off with live music on the weekends when the sun goes down. Entry is free each day before 6pm but on Friday and Saturday nights (after 6pm) a cover charge of $20 will apply.

Electric Fields played the launch, kicking off a music schedule that most definitely lives up to the hype. Angus Stone’s Dope Lemon project will be welcoming the weekend on Friday 25th, the aforementioned Jarryd James and Thandi Phoenix will play the first weekend, Future Classic’s Hayden James will be bringing the vibes on the following Friday, the second Saturday will see a packed lineup including San Cisco and Bag Raiders and closing night will find Kilter play next to one of the brightest up and coming stars on the scene, Klue.

As for the food, the organisers have managed to put together a massive lineup including local favourites Milky Lane who have created a special fish and chip burger for the event, Filipino street food pros Hoy Pinoy, Malaysian legends Mamak, buttery fried chicken slingers Butter, Newtown based Middle Eastern newcomers Old City Kitchen & Bar (their haloumi is on point), and Bao Stop. The aforementioned Messina will be handling the desserts.
