This one is kind of a big deal. Over two weeks starting from October 13th the Porcelain Tea Parlour in Carlton will be making the classy transition into a pop-up bar themed after one of the most glorious characters comedy cinema has ever given us: Ron Burgundy. The bar’s character will be drawn from San Diágo’s suave anchorman to create Ron Burgundy’s Rich Mahogany Bar, a place where you can (probably) grab a leather bound book, a scotchy scotch scotch and, we hope, whole wheels of cheese and very filling burritos for a limited time only.
70’s style suits will dress the staff while they mix up an exclusive menu that obviously has a focus on rum, cocktails, and definitely no milk. There’s even a concoction named Sex Panther, which is an absinthe frappe given a strong scent from mint, aniseed, soda, and white chocolate, and for an extra $10 those who order the cocktail will also get a special Sex Panther perfume which has been created by The Powder Room’s Samantha Taylor exclusively for the pop up, perfect for anyone who wants to smell like big foot’s dick.
Other cocktails available will include The Afternoon Delight, a harmonious blend of vodka, pineapple, lime, and cardamom infused soda, as well as the Milk Was A Bad Choice, a cocktail that heaps on those creamy textures with spiced rum, cream, nutmeg, and some vanilla.
The space will also be full of the wooden aromas of rich mahogany, literally, as the minds behind the bar, Bottoms Up Bartenders, power the air with a special scent machine designed to convert liquids into dry mist.
Ron Burgundy’s Rich Mahogany Bar will take over the Porcelain Tea Parlour at 149 Elgin Street, Carlton from Thursday 13th October to Saturday 15th October. It’ll take a bit of a break to live in a lighthouse and raise a pet shark before returning on Thursday 20th October, lasting up until Saturday 22nd October.
