Randwick’s The DOG Hotel has something special planned for ANZAC Day (Sydney)

As we approach Australia’s national day of remembrance, ANZAC Day, some of the country’s best pubs are preparing for one of their busiest days of the year. Something about kicking back with friends and drinking beer has somehow become attached to the national public holiday, and for years these drinking institutions have been putting on events to both commemorate the ANZACs and celebrate mate-ship. This isn’t at all lost on Randwick’s treasured The DOG Hotel who, along with their sister pub Keg & Brew in Surry Hills, will be hosting a whole heap of specials, an exclusive menu, and a whole day of 2-Up, in addition to a very exclusive pale ale brewed from Mordialloc.

The DOG will be hosting lively 2-Up sessions from 12pm until sundown, filling the day with what has become an ANZAC tradition. To help this along, there’s a whole bunch of very tempting drink specials, including $5 schooners of ‘Straya favourite VB and the venue’s exclusive Mad DOG lager/cider, and $6.50 schooners of 2-Up Pale Ale. The latter is a beer that has been brewed by Mordialloc’s Albatross Brewing Co, created in salute of the Young Veterans and dedicated to the Services Personnel, making good use of both Australian and New Zealand ingredients. It will only be available in two venues on tap for NSW fans, one being the Keg & Brew in Surry Hills, and the other being The DOG; 10% of all profits made from sales of the 2-Up Pale Ale, a schooner being $6.50, will be given in support of Young Veterans.

Food will also be a big draw on the day, with The DOG’s kitchen firing up to dish out specially made Aussie inspired dishes throughout the day, from The All Aussie Burger ($17) with a dry-aged beef patty, beetroot relish, aioli, cheese, bacon, a fried egg and a dill pickle, to The Happy Little Vegemite Pie ($14). Also on the menu is the huge Outback Aussie Parma ($25) with bacon, onion, BBQ sauce, cheese and a fried egg, along with a few other ANZAC inspired dishes that are sure to be just as easy to wash down with a cold one. The kitchen will be serving these fresh from 11am until late.

For those keen on getting in on a whole day of 2-Up, participants will be in good company as radio personality Ben Malouf from 2GB’s Food & Wine Show, of which The DOG is a sponsor, lends his hand in hosting.

It’s worth heading along to The DOG’s official website in the lead up to the event as well, because one lucky person has the chance to win a $200 dinner voucher at the pub, simply by entering online between 18th April and ANZAC Day, 25th April.
