Later this month will see a new restaurant open at designer hotel Ovolo Woolloomooloo as award-winning U.S chef Matthew Kenney focuses his long history of advocating for plant-based cuisine to Sydney with Alibi. Adding something incredibly unique to the envied scene at Woolloomooloo wharf, the new restaurant will take over most of the ground floor of the hotel with a casual approach to dining and a focus on innovative, seasonal dishes highlighting plant-based dining along with a comprehensive cocktail programme and an Australian-focused wine list showcasing lesser known producers as well as a few classics.
With a promise to use the highest quality local and seasonal ingredients, Kenney will work with Group Executive Chef Kasper Christensen on a menu that so far is remaining under wraps until the big launch.
“I’ve had a long relationship with Australia and the timing was simply right,” said Kenney, who gradated from the French Culinary Institution and developed a number of restaurants in New York City before focusing his career entirely on plant-based dining. “Australian is seen as a leader in wellbeing and lifestyle and Ovolo came to me with the opportunity at the right time. The food scene is so vibrant here – great produce, chefs, sunshine. I’m enjoying exploring the amazing and diverse produce available”.
With the new restaurant also comes a big revamp to the hotel’s breakfast and room service offering, which too will focus on plant-based food although not exclusively.
