Over 40 Dark Beers will be tapped at Newtown’s Union Hotel for this epic winter event (Sydney)

Newtown institution Union Hotel is turning down the lights for a special craft beer event this month, tapping 40 dark beers over two evenings to help make the winter cold that much more bearable, as well as highlighting some of the country’s best winter brews (many of which are crowd-sourced suggestions). 20 Dark Kegs will be tapped each night, starting with the first 20 on Friday 17th June with one beer per brewery, and finishing the next night with 20 different brews on Saturday 18th June.

Only one keg per each selected beer will be tapped, and each brewery will be represented only once (with a few exceptions), allowing Union Hotel to showcase a very wide range of craft beers from 12pm until close each day. Tasting baddles will be available each day from 12pm until 7pm alongside some jugs for selected brews until 10pm, all matched the eats from the kitchen’s new winter menu.

Announced via their Facebook, the event – titled “The Dark Nights” – looks to be an absolutely unmissable showcase of the strong position Australia’s craft beer industry is in with some really inventive, talented teams.
