Redfern has a new bar and dining local with Misfits, a newly opened retro-inspired venue that’s located on the first floor of the building that edges both Redfern and George Streets. Preceded by a bright neon sign, the new offering from W Short Hotel Group – the same behind institutions like The Glenmore and The Australia Heritage Hotel – fashions itself as a relaxed dining space, laid-back cocktail lounge and rooftop terrace all in one.
Local craft beer and house-infused sodas will be a major focus, with a large selection alongside single malt whiskies and a few unique twists on classic cocktails like a smoked paloma and chilli margarita. An impressive wine list will also be on offer, including magnum, jeroboam and imperial wines and champagnes for those feeling a bit fancier.
For food, Group Exec Chef James Privett has stuck with the casual dining route, whipping up a menu that includes dishes like smoky beef tartare with charcoal crisps; pressed chicken terrine with capsicum relish and chipotle; and substantial seafood dishes like charred WA octopus with romesco, black beans and sea succulents. Meat lovers get a good shot in too, with roast double lamb cutlet, mustard crumbed lamb breast, and confit pork belly with house made blood pudding all making the cut. Vegetarian dishes include roast Jerusalem artichokes with zucchini, herbed ricotta, celeriac and a dusting of toasted nori powder; and a fried slab of silken tofu topped with seasonal baby veggies, and bathed (at the table) in a roast potato broth.
