Celebrating the people and street culture of modern Cuba, Merivale will be using The Paddington to host a temporary transformation, filled with Que Bola feasts and Havana club cocktails. Across three nights, the popular Paddington gastropub will be taking on the character often credited to Cuba’s festive hospitality scene, with the crux of celebrations happening later this week on Thursday 28th September.
For the 28th, the first night of the takeover, Fred’s Danielle Alvarez, who is of Cuban descent herself, will be leading the kitchen with a specially made, one-night-only feast where guests will be able to sip on $10 Havana Club cocktails, chill to the sounds of Cuban vinyl selections, and explore a special photographic exhibition that highlights life in Cuba.
Danielle’s feast will also introduce a few snacks to the bar menu, including empanadas filled with minced beef, olives and raisins; Cuban style mojo marinated fried chicken wings; traditional Cuban sandwiches made on soft sweet bread; and lime and habanero ceviche with plantain chips.
Opting into the main feast is looking like a must though, with the menu served family-style in The Paddington’s private dining room. Dishes featured include roasted suckling pig with garlic and lime sauce; shrimp creole; beans and rice cooked with bacon; fried yucca with onions; sweet plantains; and a salad of avocado and tomato.
The feast will be priced at $25pp and kick off at 8pm on the night. Bookings can be made by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
For those who miss out, the Cuban takeover will also be taking place on Thursday 5th and 12th October. For more information head to the official Facebook event page HERE.
