It was bound to happen sooner or later. As one of the staple attractions of Darling Harbour’s forthcoming food precinct, Darling Square, Melbourne’s acclaimed burger joint 8bit is officially making the move to Sydney. The popular retro video game inspired burger restaurant, which now has three venues across Melbourne, is planning to open a 100-seat restaurant at the new precinct on Steam Mill Lane, which should be completed around April of next year.
For their Sydney iteration, 8bit will be keeping things pretty consistent with their Melbourne outlets, bringing over the same menu packed with burgers, hot dogs and shakes served up in a space that instantly recalls the days of the older Sega and Nintendo consoles, with the colour and font to match days spent sweeping villains in Street Fighter, smashing crocs in Donkey Kong, and jumping koopas in Super Mario Brothers.
Though you can expect the likes of the Golden Axe, Altered Beast, and 1 Up Mushroom burgers, there’ll also be a special burger created exclusively for Sydney. The restaurant will also be tapping various NSW craft beers to fit with the surrounds.
8bit Sydney will open in April 2018 as part of Darling Harbour’s Darling Square.
