Melbourne’s getting an unofficial Studio Ghibli party in May

To celebrate 32 years of some of the best, most unique and heartfelt animation to ever grace our screens, the very discerning folk at Supersmall Club will be hosting a massive (unofficial) party dedicated to none other than Studio Ghibli. The iconic Japanese animation film studio has inspired a pop-culture soiree of the kind Melbourne rarely sees, with an homage to the likes of Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle and Ponyo in the form of cocktails, decor, costumes, and visuals.

Planned for May, those heading along to the party can expect to sip on $5 Totoro Slushies while having a ball with life-sized cutouts and facemasks, visuals, and even a Studio Ghibli themed photobooth. Outfits will of course be encouraged, and the best Studio Ghibli inspired costume will pick up a $50 bar tab to move their night along nicely.

Some other Miyazaki-inspired drink specials on the night will include Ponyo punch, EspressNo Face, Mononoke mojitos, Spirited Away spritzes, Calcifer Cosmos and Poko bombs, all priced either $5 or $10 each. Not too shabby when the cost of entry is only $5 as well.

Anyone planning on going should check out the official Facebook event as well, as anyone who posts their favourite Ghibli moment goes into the draw to win a $50 bar tab on the night (that’s 10 Totoro slushies mind you).
