Meatstock announces Melbourne return for April 2018

Meatstock will be returning to Melbourne on the 22nd to the 23rd April 2018 after a sell-out event this year. The carnival for carnivores will feature bands, barbecues, butchers and beer, as well as hosting two of the biggest names in barbecue, Big Moe Cason and Hilbilly Wes from Sydney’s Bovine & Swine.

The Meatstock Melbourne barbecue wars will be taking centre stage with over 50 teams battling out for the title as Victoria’s best barbecuer, as well as scoring $8,000 in cash and prizes.

Over 20 butchers will also be going head to head to win Melbourne’s best butcher, and for the first time Culley’s King of the Que – a competition using a traditional barbecue to find the nation’s best Burger, Wings, Steak and Bacon.

Pitmasters, Big Moe Cason and Hilbilly Wes will be heading to Melbourne with the festival to run barbecue classes and demonstrations for both competitors and the public.

“What initially was a hobby is a way of life,” Big Moe said. “I am passionate about maintaining the integrity of BBQ by cooking with authenticity, using simple recipes and honouring the history of BBQ. I can’t wait for Meatstock Melbourne! It’s known as the food capital of Australia, so I can’t wait to dig in.”

Australia’s celebrity pitmaster and Good Food AU winner Hillbilly Wes started his meat sweats in Lockhart, Texas, the Barbecue Capital of America. After travelling back and forth and working with some of the best Barbecue establishments in Austin, he set up his own restaurant, Bovine and Swine in Sydney.

“Last year’s Meastock Melbourne was rocking! It was great to see the barbecue movement in full swing in Australia’s foodie state,” Hilbilly Wes said. “The whole weekend was jammed packed with brisket, burgers and great Aussie bands – some of my favourite things!”

Meatstock will also be hitting up Sydney from 5th to 6th May at the Sydney Showground with tickets released closer to date.
