Free Rum cocktails? Free food? The team over at Lobo Plantation, Australia’s current reigning “Rum Bar of the Year”, must be feeling mighty generous. The reason for this is fairly simple: there’s going to be a big overhaul to their cocktail list, so they thought it best to celebrate with a huge, completely free party open to everyone. It’s a nice way to announce the extended licence too, which has the bar opening until 1am every night from Monday to Saturday.
Titled “Don’t Forget The Rum!”, the epic free party will usher in change to 12 of the 16 slots on Lobo Plantation’s highly regarded cocktail menu, with food and drink all on the house between 6pm and 8pm. It’ll be the first chance the general public has to try new concoctions like the Boarding Call Blazer (Bacardi Reserva, limitada, talisker, angostura amaro), the Postage Paid (Bacardi Oro Rum, creme de peche, sparkling wine, honey water, lemon, dandelion burdock bitters, egg white), and Colonial Botanist (Bacardi Superior Rum, dolin blanc, pineapple garden cordial, lemon, fresh grass spray)
“The new cocktails we are launching are like nothing we’ve produced before, the team has created something truly special”, offered Lobo Plantation GM and co-owner Jared Merlino. “We love a piss take, so theming the new menu and the party around Ryan’s hiccup seemed like a bit of fun. But it is also a way of steering people towards drinking more Caribbean rum”.
That mistake Jared refers to is credited to one of Lobo’s senior bartenders, Ryan Snedden, who made it to the final three at the 2017 Bacardi Global Legacy Cocktail Competition only to leave out the main ingredient, Bacardi, when delivering his final cocktail. Hence, “Don’t Forget the Rum”.
