Lazy Suzie evolves into Lucky Suzie; introduces fresh new menu (Sydney)

Executive Chef Zachary Tan has been kicking all types of goals at Darlinghurst’s Lazy Suzie which opened earlier this year in March, dishing up unique twists on Malaysian street food with some of the best cocktails in the area (and that’s saying a lot). However, somewhere along the way the owners faced a potential trademark conflict over the name “Lazy Susan”; rather than let this slow anything down, the team have decided to swiftly re-brand to the new name of Lucky Suzie, and with the quick name change comes a brand new menu.

“We were sent a legal notice indicating we were infringing on the trademark of Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den in Brisbane”, explained co-owner Derek Puah. “We didn’t want to wear the expense of going to court, so we decided to change the name to Lucky Suzie.

The name change won’t make any major changes to how Lucky Suzie operates, although they have introduced a few things here and there to usher in the evolution. For example, 5pm-7pm each day will now be known as “Lucky Hour” with select cocktails offered up for $10 each alongside a range of beers and wines for $7. A bigger change can also be found on the menu, introducing new bar-style dishes that include Crispy Fried Quail, Aunty Yulia’s Beef Rendang, a Pandan Custard Spiced Layer Cake, and Pork Belly Satay.

A few design elements are also set to change, with the venue welcoming in local street artists every now and then to freshen up the artwork on the walls.

“Lucky Suzie also seems more appropriate to the fun vibe we are trying to create”, said Tan. “We wanted to bring our focus back to vibrant, bar-style dining and re-emphasise Malaysian street food”.
