L.A’s popular E.P & L.P restaurant to take over The Dolphin Hotel for June Long Weekend (Sydney)

As part of their ongoing aperitivo hour guest chef series, Surry Hills’ The Dolphin Hotel is planning on opening up their slick venue to the L.A’s famed E.P & L.P restaurant, a hotspot co-owned by renowned Australian DJ – and Ministry of Sound favourite – Grant Smillie.

The only day only takeover is landing on the June Long Weekend, set for Sunday 11th June from 5pm to 10pm with food, drinks and a pretty sweet line-up of DJ’s headed by Smillie himself. Head chef Louis Tikaram (ex-Longrain) will be taking care of the food, taking over the kitchen with two different custom menus, one designed for the Wine Room Aperitivo menu as originally planned, and an additional menu in The Dining Room, put together in collaboration with Monty Koludrovic which features a wider range of So-Cal inspired dishes.

The Wine Room menu will feature snacks priced from $5-7 likes WA blue swimmer crab congee with ginger, shallots and garlic; wagyu crackers with hot & sour beef tartare; Hollywood abalone with green curry paste and Thai basil on a Kaffir lime leaf; and a Kakoda Fijian style ceviche of long line snapper, coconut milk, lime and chilli.

Those still hungry can head on up to The Dining Room to try the bar menu with dishes like a crispy chicken sandwich on a soft milk bun with spicy mayo and Romaine lettuce; crumbed pork in pacific yellow curry with steamed rice and pickled mustard greens; a roll-your-own option of grilled Mirroll Creek lamb neck with iceberg lettuce, herbs and chilli jam; tofi fries with soy and peanut; waffle fries; and Marty’s pizza of 5 spice caramel hock, Thai basil and picked chilli.

“This will be my first time back in an Aussie kitchen since leaving Australia to open E.P and L.P in 2014”, said Tikaram. “I’m super excited to be teaming up with the guys at the Dolphin, to share my experiences and influences from Southern California so far and also tell my story through the menu from as far back as Mullumbimby”.

It won’t just be food from E.P & L.P that will be making its way over to Surry Hills either, the Aussie-to-L.A chef will also be mixing up some of the restaurant’s signature beverages such as their dirty bubble teas, beer buckets, damiana margharita and the “LP California Love on The Roof” Rose (which is a rose with rose aperitif blend and seasonal fruit).
