KFC Australia to introduce home delivery service next month

It’s the speedy evolution of fast food this generation has always dreamed of. Australia has been left behind as the rest of the world introduces delivery services for the most well-known chains and frankly it’s left us a bit bitter. KFC Australia seemed to have realised this, hence the recent announcement that the chicken empire has teamed with home deliverers Foodora to trail the service, kicking off within the next few weeks.

Trials will reportedly begin in Sydney – Manly to be specific – with up to 12 suburbs involved in the eventual rollout, all chosen based upon Foodora’s strongest delivery areas. And while prices haven’t yet been released, we expect that they will be following Foodora’s existing model, which includes a $5 delivery fee and an optional tip for driver.

Those who are old enough may remember that KFC once started trailing home delivery back in the ’80s, though the service was scrapped due to issues with logistics. Now with the rise of delivery services such as Foodora as well as Deliveroo, MenuLog and UberEats, it seems those kinds of issues have been taken care of. More and more we are beginning to see this benefit everyone from food chains to established restaurants, opening up food businesses to a larger client base.

Undoubtedly this reintroduction of KFC’s home delivery service will go down well in this modern age of ultra-convenience, which means this trial should turn into a permanent service within no time – and it might just push other chains to do the same.
