Italian eatery One Ford Street opens in Balmain (Sydney)

Last week Balmain welcomed a brand new eatery attached to the recently re-worked Cricketers Arms Hotel on Darling Street. Named One Ford Street the attractive new spot will focus on fresh, authentic Italian food with a menu designed by Chef Sam Bennett (ex Bourke Street Bakery; Fix St James) who is working alongside floor manager, and former Gourmet Traveller Magazine “Maitre D of the Year”, Fabio Dore.

The intimate 50-seat space will aim for neighborhood dining with a very casual feel, celebrating the social aspect of rustic Italian dining with high-quality seasonal ingredients including pickled olives, cured meats, homemade pasta, bread, and mortadella.

Inspired by the big, simple flavours and beautiful ingredients of Italy on a recent holiday, Bennett has designed a menu with dishes such as Chopped Veal & Pizza Crusts; freshly cooked Tiger Prawns served with sugar snaps and caramelle; and Lamb T-Bones with pring fregola salad, mint, and almonds.

Dore will complement the menu with an eclectic selection of boutique wines from all the Italian regions as well as some local homages to Italian wine. There’s even a range of Italian craft beer available.

Designer Humphrey Edwards has worked with owner Tim Condon to fit the venue out beautifully, paying particular attention to the outdoor courtyard which features an impressive pergola, hanging baskets, and an array of potting plants designed to capture the look and feel of a Mediterranean garden.
