Hopscotch is Southbank’s new 30-tap beer bar with DIY cocktail kits and a microbrewery (Melbourne)

Hopscotch, a new arts-inspired “urban beer bar”, will open in Southbank just in time for the summer holidays, setting up on the riverside promenade with a strong dedication to craft beer, fancied pub eats, and cocktails.

Melbourne’s adjacent arts precinct has found its way into the design for the new venue, with local artist Resio working up an easy-going atmosphere that nods to the location with a waterfront terrace and laneway courtyard, all worked to complement the vibes offered with the drinks list and food menu.

30 different beers will be on tap at any given time, with some reserved for boutique batches pumped out by a custom glass-encased microbrewery, which will be part of the venue when it arrives on site in January. The folks behind Hopscotch promise that an exclusive 6-keg brew will be arriving each month, personally prepared by local Victorian makers. Each will undergo a 2-3 week fermentation process before being tapped directly to the bar.

Cocktail lovers will be well catered for with a cocktail on tap, spiked slushies, and even some intriguing do-it-yourself “koktail kits” (featured image).

In terms of food, Head Chef Adam Baughan has fused together various influences to beef up pub classics and street food favourites. Think Beer Can Chicken, a signature Reuben and a Bearded Beef Lover Brew Board as some of the savoury highlights while dessert will come from an on-site nitrogen ice cream bar that will have treats like Ice-Cream Beer & Bacon Cups. The kitchen will even be pushing breakfast on the weekends with several different waffles, like the Lemon Meringue Pie.

Hopscotch opens to the public from 9th December 2016
