Glebe’s Thievery is doing a special “Middle Eastern Yum Cha” menu in August (Sydney)

Glebe Point Road’s playful mod-Lebanese restaurant Thievery is doing something a little different for the month of August, temporarily replacing their original offerings with a special “Middle Eastern Yum Cha” menu in an attempt to fuse aspects of Middle Eastern and Asian eats.

Executive Chef Julian Cincotta, who only recently returned from an extensive journey around Asia with plenty of inspiration, has put much thought into the pop-up overhaul which presents diners with a dim sum menu done very, very differently. Inspired by the traditional Chinese dim sum, the menu will be made up of options like Baba Ganoush Dumplings; Middle Eastern Salt & Pepper Bug Tails; Lamb Kafta Pancakes; Twice Cooked Ras El Hanout Duck with carob, ginger and caramel; and Bastourma spiced Char Sui Lamb Cutlets. You can cap all that deliciousness off with desserts like a Chinese Donut Bun with rose and pistachio, and steamed Cantonese Cake with Za’atar.

“The idea of a late night dinner, sharing multiple small dishes with your friends have always been something that I loved and that is why I am beyond excited for this one month restaurant transformation”, said Cincotta. “The Middle Eastern flavours pair well when combined with the more traditional Chinese Dim Sum style of food”.

And it wouldn’t be Yum Cha without tea. Bar Manager Doug Livingstone has put a bunch of bespoke tea cocktails, served in large teapots, onto the menu.

The “Middle Eastern Yum Cha” menu will be offered as a la carte or a set menu for $53 which includes a selection of 11 dishes. It’ll be offered only during dinner sessions and brunch on Saturday from 7th August through to 1st September. Bookings are essential.
