Get your hands dirty at the new House of Crabs in St Kilda (Melbourne)

Following the success of the original House of Crabs which rests above the Norfolk Hotel in Sydney’s Redfern, the HoC team have opened up another seafood eatery in St Kilda at The Basement within The Newmarket Hotel.

Primed to open its doors tomorrow, House of Crabs St Kilda boasts an American-style seafood menu that pays homage to the Louisiana boil – that’s seafood boiled in large vats along with a bounty of spices. It’s up to you to pick your ultimate marriage between seafood (Crabs, Prawns, or Mussels) and sauce (Cajun, Creole, Spicy Malay, Singapore, or Lemon Pepper). The House of Crabs experience is a hands-on affair (bibs will be provided) designed to be shared with (or fought amongst!) friends.

They also offer other dishes such as Lobster Fries, Buttermilk Chicken Bits, and Soft Shell Tacos. From the grill, you can get a 300g Scotch Fillet or Balmain Bugs in Seaweed Butter, amongst many others. Dessert comes in the form of a Passionfruit Ice Cream Sandwich or a Chocolate Sundae with Salted Caramel, Chocolate Brownie and Peanuts.

To wash it all down you can choose a cocktail from their extensive New Orleans-inspired drinks menu, such as the Alabama Slamma featuring Southern Comfort, Disaronno Amaretto and Sloe Gin, or for something with a real kick, the all-time classic Sazerac. There’s also plenty of local and international beers and wines to choose from.

House of Crabs is located at The Basement, The Newmarket Hotel – 34 Inkerman Street, St Kilda. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 6pm til late. Walk-ins and bookings are both welcome. More information can be found at the official website HERE.
