Fatties Burger Appreciation Society are throwing a burger party for charity (Sydney)

Infamous Facebook group Fatties Burger Appreciaton Society, or simply FBAS, has this year grown to 72,000 members making it the biggest burger community in the world and giving what is now an institution enough clout to start throwing their considerable weight around. And seeing as Sydney is perhaps the biggest focus of all the user-generated content posted up on the Facebook page each day, the city has been chosen to host the group’s big year-end party, a totally not-for-profit burger soiree aimed at raising money for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.

With a good cause behind them, local businesses have jumped on board for the ticketed party, curating a big burger feast with craft beers, coffee, ice tea, and natural sodas to help it all down along with sides, desserts and a hefty soundtrack of TBC musical stylings (we’re guessing hip hop and/or grunge). Seeing as it’ll be held at the brand new Bare Grill on Bourke diner in Surry Hills, the treasured La Perouse originated burger joint will of course be offering up some of their best. The folks at Hashtag Burgers who recently made world news with their Pokemon burgers, have also been involved with organising the event.

Beer will come from the reliable team at Mountain Goat while Nexba take care of the ice tea and organic sodas and Schibello Coffee pour up their finest brew. Dolton House is also joining the party, as is Yelp to make it a real team effort. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the fountain, with tickets set at $45pp.

While Sydney’s burger scene has been going strong for a few years now, 2016 really saw it kick into overdrive, becoming much more than just a trend. There was even a period where three big names opened up all in the same week, and then you have Bar Luca who opened two BL Burgers, the harbourside Ume Burger, and of course Bare Grill’s aforementioned expansion to Surry Hills. Oh, and don’t forget the recent Western Sydney love, first in Penrith from Hashtag Burgers, and then in Wakeley from Pub Life Kitchen’s Jovan Curic who recently opened Superior Burger.
