Epic Pizza is Surry Hills’ fresh New York-style pizzeria (Sydney)

The team behind Melbourne’s super-sized Shawcross Pizza have expanded to Sydney’s Surry Hills with the opening of Epic Pizza, filling a space on Crown Street with a raw New York-style pizzeria. Owners Matthew John and Damien Thompson have decidedly moved away from the Italian style of the majority and given Sydney’s inner-city something much more in-line with those monstrous U.S-style pizzas one would find all over the Big Apple, adapting American’s love of big, hearty food with a uniquely Australian twist.

As reported by Broadsheet, Epic Pizza have hooked up with Victoria’s That’s Amore to source the cheese (scamorza), dedicated to a 24-hour fermentation process with the dough, and tapped into a stream of pepperoni from a local butcher, shaping up pizzas for delivery or takeaway. On entry, one would find some of these 22 inch beauties lined up in a glass display case, freshly made and ready to take a slice out of.

Full pizzas come in two sizes for takeaway and delivery, one can settle for the 12″ or go all-out with the 22″. Toppings range from the Notorious P.I.G which is loaded with bacon, pork sausage, jalapenos, charred onion, and BBQ sauce, and the Meatballer, with mozzarella, beef meatballs, permesan, and parsley, to the vegan-friendly Happy Daize, which is made with tomato, mushroom, spinach, olives, onion, and vegan ricotta.

Those wanting one of these immense pizzas delivered straight to their faces can call (number listed below), drop into the store, or order online. They open up from 5pm every day and currently deliver to the areas of Darlinghurst, Ultimo, Haymarket, Surry Hills, Redfern, Zetland, Paddington, Alexandria, and Chippendale.
