Elderton Wines is the Barossa Valley’s newest cellar door experience (VIC)

Cameron and Allister Ashmead, co-directors of acclaimed family-owned winery Elderton Wines, have opened a stunning new cellar door on in their Nuriootpa vineyard, gifting the Barossa a warm and inviting addition to the region’s dynamic hospitality scene. What’s more is that the cellar door is fashioned as a Gentleman’s bungalow drawing from the First World War period, offering a property that’s grand, homely and unique with renovated gardens carefully crafted by Garden Art Design.

The sprawling property, which features a swimming pool and tennis court as well as lawns for croquet and indoor/outdoor dining areas, fueling a holistic experience that’s centered around various drink packages starting from $10pp and going up all the way to $300pp. Art lovers even get a nod with a small gallery showcasing South Australian artists, which sounds like a perfect day out when coupled with one of the cellar door’s immersive masterclasses.

When packages like the Elderton Food & Wine Flight feature five Elderton Wines matched with five canapes priced at the pretty damn reasonable figure of $30pp, this Cellar Door experience is starting to look like one of the most quintessential in a region known for offering one of the country’s finest wine-themed road trips. The Elderton Barossa Shiraz Masterclass is also set at $30pp, and welcomes guests to explore the diversity of the varietal the Barossa region is celebrated for, featuring three estate grown, flagship wines including the precious Command Shiraz – known as one of only 22 wines to hold a “Barossa Trust Mark”, which is an independently assessed accolade awarded to various foods, wines and activities which best represent the region.

For those with money to burn, the most experience package is “Making Great Wines” which sits at $300pp. It includes meeting the people behind the wines – the tour being hosted by an Ashmead family member – and enjoying an exclusive look at the history and heritage of the winery, a visit to the 120+ year old Command vineyard, and a premium tasting of single site wines and back vintages in the elegant Elderton Private Tasting Room; locally crafted cheeses are to be expected.
