Josh Arthurs has been a busy man this past year, building his burger empire, Burgers by Josh, through a series of feverishly popular kitchen takeovers that are now somewhat of legend, attracting some of the most mind-numbing queues in recent memory. The fun of following BBJ around Sydney as the Arthurs and his team stage some of the most memorable pop-ups in Sydney is about to come to an end though, with the announcement that Josh’s residency in Darlinghurst is wrapping up a month ahead of schedule. Instead, BBJ will stage one final pop-up before taking things to the next stage: an actual permanent location.
No longer a nomadic burger business for long, Burger by Josh will head back to The Annandale Hotel for one final month-long takeover from 20th July**. Seemingly straight after – or after a bit of a break – BBJ will then move into their permanent venue, wherever that may be.
“The reason we ended William St early was because The Annandale was more fitting for our brand, and has an atmosphere more suited to it as well”, Arthurs told the AU review, confirming that indeed this is “the final pop-up” and “yes, there will definitely be a full time shop in works…the concept and site are currently being worked on”.
Those who have fallen head over heels for the menu at Hotel William x BBJ will be glad to know that all four specials – J Burger, The Primo, The Sorpio, and the Lisa Simpson – will be on the menu at The Annandale, alongside a special #HacksbyJosh menu that pays homage to the crazier side of burger stacking (think deep fried cheese patties, spicy Sorpio chicken fillets, a macaroni cheese patty crumbed in Cheetos cheese and bacon balls, smoked pulled pork, and more sides than ever before). Might as well end this phase of Burgers by Josh by going all out, right?
“This has proven to be extremely challenge and now is the right time to settle down and build the foundations of something much stronger that’s 100% mine”, said Josh.
