Burger Watch: Mister Gee’s exceptional Buttersoft makes its way back onto the menu (Sydney)

Welcome to Burger Watch, where we acknowledge the constant creativity bursting from all sides of the epic burger wave that regularly sweeps Australia. The highest-of-high demand is reserved for this timeless food staple and just about every interpretation of it, whether it to be an over-the-top glutton-fest or a focus on simple burgers done well. We acknowledge that it’s not just enough to compile a list of the best burger joints for each city, because we all know the cream of the crop have space on their menu for revolving specials. That’s why every now and then we’ll be paying close attention to some of the absolute best burger joints across the country and picking limited edition specials we feel you need in your life, so you’ll never have to miss out again.

This time we’re putting the spotlight on none other than one of Sydney’s MVPs, the kind of local favourite tourists would kill to know about: Mister Gee Burger Truck. A stalwart on the scene for some years now, the burger truck, which takes up residence at a car wash parking lot for a few days every week, has spun their ever-revolving menu and landed on one of their all-time classics. That’s right, they’ve made the wise choice to bring the Buttersoft back to their menu, and while we’re not quite sure how long it’ll stay on the board for, we’re just glad it’s made a comeback.

If just looking at it doesn’t make you want to run along to the truck’s location in Haberfield, check this description: the Buttersoft is crafted with a grass-fed beef patty, double American cheese, tomato, onion, bacon jam, peanut butter caramel, and special sauce. That’s some serious flavour right there, and combined with the atmosphere that comes with the DIY burger destination, it’s an absolute must.

Note that the menu does change regularly, so keep an eye out on their social media for a more up-to-date expression of their menu. Still, even if they do rotate between their several burgers each week, the buttersoft should be coming back around soon enough.

Mister Gee Burger Truck is also the subject of the latest in a 10-part video series – “Behind the Scenes with the Big 10” – by the famous Fatties Burger Appreciation Society, a Facebook group which boasts over 80,000 members. The monthly YouTube series takes a behind-the-scenes look at the burger joints which have been named the best in town and the chefs behind them. They already looked at Jimmy Hurlston and Darlinghurst’s Guilty as well as Hashtag Burgers with Down N’ Out. The July edition visits Mister Gee to bring people a bit closer to the story behind the mega-popular Parramatta Road food truck and their one-burger-a-week philosophy.
