Brisbane is getting its first ever Japanese festival this month

Brisbane’s west end is gets its first Japanese festival Saturday 19th of August. Foodies should come with a sumo-sized appetite to indulge on Japanese food and culture at Sekisui House’s newest development, West Village, set within the trendy Boundary Street.

Favourite Japanese eateries will showcase the country’s best through market stalls, sake tasting and chopstick challenges to highlight the culture Japan is famous for. Ticket entries are priced at $10 to a full day of gyoza feasting, drum dancing and han-ami-style picnic festivities, with activities and performances set to entertain kids and adults alike. The ticket will also put punters in the draw to win a trip to Japan.

Andrew Thompson is the West Village’s Project Director hopes, by welcoming some of the city’s most famous Japanese ambassadors into West Village, will create celebration for Japanese heritage within the Brisbane community.

“Japan’s culture is rich, and full of elements that have captured the hearts of Australians for decades,” Andrew says. “The Japanese Festival at West Village will be an opportunity for the community to celebrate this vivid and complex culture, learn about, and participate in traditional Japanese activities.

As you party the afternoon away in a Japanese wonderland of art, culture and hands-on workshops, a collection of vendors will peddle irresistible delicacies. Poke bowls topped in sashimi, stylish sushi donuts and refreshing bubble tea are among the o erings set to sort your sumo-sized appetite on Saturday 19 August.

As families venture through the ins-and-outs of West Village, they’ll discover attractions suit-ed to all ages. Kids will dive into the celebrations with origami workshops and a vibrant arcade alley, with the whole crowd set to admire Japanese drum demonstrations, cultural music and dancing and art.
