Both Luke Mangan and Johnny di Francesco announce new restaurants for P&O Cruises

The rise of the ‘casual gourmet’ dining experience is fast becoming a staple across the Australian foodie scene. Ahead of their 2018-19 departures, P&O Cruises are taking the ‘casual gourmet’ trend on-board with the help from acclaimed chef Luke Mangan, and famed Melbourne pizza master Johnny Di Francesco.

Guests at sea on the cruise line’s Pacific Explorer will be able to feast upon gourmet burgers (the same which feature at Sydney’s Chicken Confidential) from Mangan’s poolside grill Luke’s alongside a special seven-course degustation which will feature the chef’s most renowned dishes paired with wines.

“Australians love Salt grill by Luke Mangan on our existing ships, so we’re looking forward to giving them a new way to enjoy Luke’s talent, with al fresco dining at Luke’s on Pacific Explorer,” said P&O Cruises President, Sture Myrmell.

Di Francesco, on the other hand, will open his popular 400 Gradi pizzeria on the same cruise ship, offering traditional Neapolitan pizzas alongside other Italian staples like charcuteries boards, cheeses, olives and salads.

Once opened, both casual dining outlets will be helping P&O in taking Pacific Explorer’s food and drink offerings to the next level, moving away from the expected; an approach we’ve already seen with the recent welcoming of Archie Rose Distilling Co on board, a partnership which has them powering the ship’s premium cocktail bar, The Bonded Store, with their handcrafted spirits.
