Belle’s Hot Chicken mastermind Morgan McGlone to lead kitchen at Harpoon Harry (Sydney)

Since reopening at Surry Hills’ historic Hotel Harry, the street-level diner known as Harpoon Harry has been serving up some worthy latino-inspired fare, but that’s all set to change come April as the kitchen welcomes famed Belle’s Hot Chicken owner Morgan McGlone to give the menu a complete refresh. McGlone, who can currently be found cooking up the best damn fried chicken you’ll find in Sydney at the Belles pop-up down at Barangaroo, will be presenting diners at Harpoon Harry with a menu inspired by his time in the kitchen at Sean Brock’s Husk in Nashville.

We’ll be moving away from the Latino vibe at Harpoon Harry and I’ll bring all that knowledge I picked up working at Husk. It won’t have a connection with Belles – I can do things aside from fry chicken”, McGlone told Good Food.

The announcement follows a successful series of pop-ups Morgan has staged at Harpoon Harry throughout the past year, including a Belle’s Hot Chicken popup and a recent Superbowl showdown with Icebergs Dining Chef Monty Koludrovic.

McGlone’s residency at Harpoon Harry will last for at least a year with the strong possibility of a longer stay.

As for Belle’s Hot Chicken; they will be opening up a new Melbourne store in Richmond this week and the brand is still seriously considering taking their hugely popular Sydney pop-up to a more permanent location when the Barangaroo residency wraps up later this year.
