Bangkok’s Gaggan tops Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2017

Just a few weeks ago the annual Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants were announced, heralding culinary perfection throughout some of the most famous foodie destinations in the world. Millions of restaurants were up for considerations as always, and while only one could top the entire list, it’s obviously an enormous deal to be recognised as one of the 50 out of a seemingly endless amount of choices.

Bangkok’s highly rewarded Gaggan once again took home the number one spot, marking the third consecutive year Gaggan Anand’s grand restaurant has been honoured as Asia’s finest. It took home two awards, “The Best Restaurant in Asia” and “The Best Restaurant in Thailand”.

The List, which is created by and voted on by an academy of over 300 leaders of Asia’s restaurant industry, also saw 10 new entries in total while the countries of China, Japan, Singapore and Thailand are well represented with nine restaurants each on the list. This includes Singapore’s Restaurant Andre which came in as the overall runner-up, Hong Kong’s acclaimed Amber at number 3, and Japan’s Narisawa which came in at number 6 and was named “The Best Restaurant in Japan” for the fifth consecutive year.

Singapore’s Odette can boast the “Highest New Entry” at number 9, Bali’s Locavore at number 22 has been named “Highest Climber”, and “Asia’s Best Pastry Chef” has gone to Kazutoshi Narita who runs Tokyo’s Esquisse and Esquisse Cinq.
