Now that it’s been named “Best Distillery Event in the World” from Drinks International Magazine, Queensland’s huge The Spirit of Bundaberg Festival is in a good position to further expand on the success of previous years. Taking place Saturday 15th October at the Bundaberg Rum Distillery, the wild celebration of good local food, great entertainment, and even better rum is set to fill the property with an array of returning features plus a few new ones, creating one big lively showcase of Bundaberg that lasts into the evening.
Transforming the grounds and facilities of one of the country’s most renowned distilleries is no easy feat, but the region has committed to filling the scene with rum-inspired food stalls, cocktail master classes, a specialty Rum Garden, and a stage for some very fine local artists to soundtrack the day. Those heading along will also be among the first to try the latest releases from the distillery, including those from the limited edition Bundaberg Rum Master Distillers’ Collection – the latest being the very premium Bundaberg Rum Solera – and Bundaberg Rum Black, that pioneering rum that’s been aged for 12 years and was first released to the country in 1995.
As far as food goes, expect the best in the area to be firing up those inventive culinary minds for the likes of woodfired pizzas with rum sauce, rum BBQ sauce pork ribs, onion rings with rum dipping sauce, fruit jerky that’s been marinated in Bundaberg Chocolate & Coffee liqueur, steak burgers with rum sauce, and more.
More than 5,000 turned out for the festival last year, and with the aforementioned award shooting up the profile we think it’s safe to bet that number will be increased this weekend.
