Attention Wine Lovers: Merivale have added the full set of Penfolds Grange to their collection

In what should come as some very welcome news to discerning wine lovers in Sydney, hospitality juggernaut Merivale have announced that they have added the full set of Penfolds Grange to their premier wine collection. For those not already up on Penfolds, the label is one of the country’s most iconic and prestigious, known for their superior releases and highly sought after rarities. The rare acquisition makes Merivale one of the only hospitality groups in the world to house the collection.

The full set, which consists of 63 bottles of Penfolds Grange ranging from the first ever experimental 1951 vintage made by Grange’s creator and Australia’s wine industry pioneer, Max Schubert, through to the latest 2013 vintage release by Penfolds chief winemaker Peter Gago, is now included in Merviale’s wine programme under the leadership of Group Master Sommelier Frank Moreau.

“This is going to be a huge year for Merivale and our incredible team of sommeliers”, said Frank. “Adding these iconic Australian wines, alongside prestigious international brands and back vintages, to our collection allows us to take he Merivale wine program to the next level”.

Also included in the set will be ‘hidden bottles’ from 1957 to 1959, a period in which Schubert was ordered to stop making Grange. These wines were made in secret, and were a big part of why Schubert is regarded as one of the most iconic figures in Australian winemaking.

The Penfolds Grange collection will be featured on the wine list at est., Felix and Mr. Wong, and can be made available at any other Merivale venue if requested in advance. For a full list of Merivale venues head to their website HERE.
