8Bit to give away 300 free signature burgers at Steam Mill Lane this week (Sydney)

To celebrate the first permanent Sydney store from Melbourne-born burger heroes 8Bit, the video-game inspired joint is planning to give away 300 freebies of their signature burg: the 8bit with cheese. They’ll be serving up these totally free, totally delicious burgers on Thursday 3rd May (that’s tomorrow for those playing at home) from their home at the newly opened Steam Mill Lane precinct down at Darling Harbour.

What has long been known as one of Melbourne’s very best burgers, 8bit has been straight dominating the scene since opening their first store in 2014. In the past few years, it has become one of the most beloved and referenced names amongst burger lovers, realising the vision of classically trained chef Shayne McCallum who started the business alongside restauranteur Alan Sam. The video game theme is just an added bonus, framing the burgers with an addictive homage to 80’s arcade machines.

Sydney’s iteration of 8bit is a 100-seat diner with the same nips and tucks the brand has become known for, including pixilated tiles and gaming-inspired vinyl wallpaper. The menu is identical to that in Melbourne, ranging beef burgers, fried chicken burgers, crumbed mushroom burgers and other American diner-esque gems like onion rings, hotdogs, loaded fries and shakes.

Aside from those free burgers, what Sydney burger fiends should really be excited about is the promise of ongoing burgers specials and collaborations. It’s going to be interesting watching how they fit into the Sydney scene, especially amongst neighbours like Belles Hot Chicken, The Sandwich Shop, Gong Cha, Il Bacio, and forthcoming residents like Fishbowl and Marrickville Pork Roll (yes, the Marickville Pork Roll).

Get down to Steam Mill Lane before the burger giveaway kicks off at 12pm because only the first 300 customers will be getting their chompers in and around a freebie.

8Bit Sydney
